I've noticed my flock of 20 odd sparrows have disappeared it seems. No chirping. not seen feeding recently and I miss them! Do sparrows move just like that? Are they perhaps nesting elsewhere? will they come back?
Thanks! Would appreciate any ideas from other sparrow lovers!
Sorry i can't help S as House Sparrows tend to stay close to home.Hopefully.they are just finding places to nest now as they are getting in the mood ha ha.

I only had a few when I moved here last Aug. and they have disappeared and I keep hoping they will come back but not so far. I miss them too:-(
My colony of 30 to 40 disappeared completely last August. They had always been with me, filling the garden with their cheerful chatter, and all those babies last spring! So many I could never count them.
Now I am lucky to see one.
Their disappearance coincided with a neighbour chopping down his tall conifer tree. They roosted in this tree at night, and as they had to find another roost, they have moved on somewhere else.
Cheers, Linda.

Mine are in our Conifer as i speak and we have a small garden now a days........... sooo sad Linda.
Hi Snapdragon
Sadly, they are probably roosting in a different place and feeding nearby like Sparrow's sparrows. :-))
Best wishes Chris

I am lucky enough to have mostly Tree Sparrows but they act the same as House Sparrows.
I have a dozen or so visiting when my seed feeder is full. If I run out and the feeder is empty for a while, they disappear. Have you got loads of mixed seed out in your feeders?

I had a large colony of sparrows with me for the last two spring/summers and they nested in a neighbours large conifer. this year however the Magpies seem to have moved their nest into these conifers and the Sparrows have not returned in large numbers. I have had about 6 visit, but they are thus far very shy and not using the feeders.

I've learned that I still have a lot to learn...

Isn't this sad.
We know how Sparrows have been decimated over the last few decades. Our experiences here only serve to strengthen that fact.
Poor little birds. Shame on us humans!!!!
Don't give up hope, my sparrows have just made a welcome return. One or two at first but now I have about 8 so things are looking up
