Lonely fieldfare

Despite there being flocks of fieldfares (and possibly redwings) flying around, we’ve only had one sole fieldfare on our crabapple tree for the last few weeks (we’ve had flocks of them in past years). Anyone know why?

  • We can see one in the garden next door sat on the top of a cotoneaster bush we presume it is guarding a valuable food supply, any strange bird gets sharp shrift.
    Live update it has just dived deep into the bush as our local Sparrowhawk is on patrol! !
