HI All,
Can anyone tell me what to do with a baby bluetit that has been on the front steps since yesterday early p.m.
It can't fly but has been flapping it's stubby strong wings and I have seen the parent birds coming to see it with food, although I don't know if it's actually feeding.
The problem is I keep seeing (I can see it clearly from the window without disturbing it), it has flipped over onto it's back and can't seem to stay on it's feet.
I used a thin twig to see if it would grip and it has a very strong grip when I brushed the twig by it's feet. it actually grabbed hold really tightly. I don't think it has broken anything, but it just won't stay upright.
It's also very vocal and has a least done a poop since yesterday I know because it was in the pot next to where I left it. Using garden gloves to avoid putting my smell on it I made a little scrape in the semi bare flower pot (large size) to see if it would stay upright by sitting in a little cup shaped scrape. The parents came quite quickly to it's calls and had food in their mouths. But it still keeps flipping over on it's back.
Do I leave it to take it's chances or should I call someone?

Dear Littleowl,
Thanks I did try this link earlier, but it was the fact that the baby tit was flipping onto it's back that worried me, we have had fledgings around a lot in the past and we always leave well alone.
I have just gone out to the garage and it's actually for the first time sitting like a normal bird, very quitely watching me as I went by the pot, I think it was just a case of it needing to quite literally finding it's feet.
Finger crossed I won't find a body in the morning.
Will post tomorrow, if my broadband will let me (BT are due a.m. so I may not get to post until afternoon)
Hi PaPaeddd,
That Is a good start and the parents do come to It with food,so fingers crossed as you say.Do keep us posted on updates.

The nest was up under the tiles on our porch roof, well away from prying eyes.
Sadly have to report this morning that baby blue didn't make it.
Found him this morning where he's been for the last day or so, at least he didn't end up a meal for a cat or fox.
Thanks to all the posts, if anyone can tell me why he kept flipping onto his back I would be most grateful.
