We've been putting food out on the bird feeding station for a few months now, with the food being on an open tray. We used a camera to see who is visiting and got used to seeing a steady stream of regulars, mostly small birds.
Recently we grew tired of a pigeon coming in every day and eating/throwing on the ground 80% of the food so we installed a new feeder with a dome. This has stopped the pigeon and made the food last longer but not all our regulars have returned. The Blue and Coal tits have no problem with the new setup and seem to appreciate the extra cover, but the robins, sparrows and dunnocks have yet to make a return. Is it just a case of giving them time to adjust or should we look at going back to the previous setup?
Hi medd, we added one new feeder to an already sited 4 feeder set up, and it took a month for everyone to come back
