Hi All
Don't know if anyone can help but I saw the strangest little bird today in my garden. It was very small and thin, no bigger than a wren but thinner, but it just flew in looked at the bird seed feeder hovered for a couple of seconds and flew off. The strange thing was it was sort of upright all the time with it's head at the top and the rest of it's body sort of hanging and it was mainly pale green, possible stripy, it took me by suprise. I have never seen anything like it and I promise I have not been on the sherry!!!! It was definately a bird as it had a longish beak. (started doubting myself thinking it might have been a big butterfly/moth)
Maybe it is time to take my tablets!!!

You have no control over what life & people throw at you - but you have full control over how you deal with it!
Hi Paul,
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Cheers, Linda.

That's a beautiful photo Paul. I do hope they are still around. Goldcrest chicks would be a great coup.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Lovely photograph Paul . Just checked on goldcrests and I see that they esp. prefer conifers so that is maybe the reason why we don't see them in our garden, although we do have a woods next to our garden. If you can hear them Paul, there must be a chance you could have a nest in your garden. I hope so.
Wow! Great pic Paul! They move about so much! Superb!

What a smashing picture of this beautiful little bird.

Yes I agree, great picture and such a sweet little bird.
You might be right saying it was a goldcrest. I saw one last year go into a big Christmas tree we have but have never caught sight of it again. Unfortunately I found a dead one a few weeks ago, just lying in the snow.
Does anyone know what they eat? I threw some nyger seed under the Xmas tree just in case.

Hi Chez,
Goldcrests are insect eaters. They also eat spiders and tiny insect eggs!

Thanks Buzzard, I have never seen them about when I am feeding mealworms, are they too shy to come and eat with the crowd?
What a great photo. There is a spot in Marbary Country Park that has given me good views of goldfinches over three years. They are so fast moving its hard to follow them, but they worked their way through a particular tree above the lake, obviously looking for those insects and spiders you mentioned
