I've woken up this morning to a devastating situation.
I know a lot of sparrows have been nesting for a few years in out ivy and stay the winters for shelter.
This morning the whole lot has toppled in the strong winds bringing some of the brick wall with it. On first check this morning I couldn't hear any of the birds but a little earlier I thought I heard some of them.
There's is noting I can physically do as the winds are very high at the moment, my family have suggested trying to lift it back but the wall just wouldn't support it.
I'm heartbroken to say the least, a positive is there are some big gaps in the fallen ivy so I'm hoping they have survived!
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Ellen
Regards,
Ian.
Thankyou Ian, it makes us feel so helpless when mother nature goes to work!
The sparrows are flying in and out of the ivy, my daughter said they were flying up to next doors chimney pot as if to look at what's happened.
I hope they all fly to safety
I shall miss them
Regards
Ellen.

Above is another 6 minutefefi fFilm on the same subject
I think this was on tv a couple of weeks ago ( channel 5 I think) I will give the you tube video a watch, thankyou Ian.
The channel 5 documentary was first broadcasta around 5 years on TV
The Channel 5 documentary the big freeze is still available to watch on catch on the my 5 app until 2027. For anyone who never saw that documentary and maybe was born well after 1963- Also a documentary about the 1976 summer which was very hot and lasted so long until when in September of that year the long hit dry spell in September 1976 ended when I never stopped raining from September 1976 for so long. Also explained towards the the documentary the big freeze it is explained what caused the 1962-1963 big freeze to last so long and just short of 3 months. The longest freeze up of any winter since 1962-1863 was 4 weeks. The last fairly long period of snow in 2009 lasted 3 weeks. As no one from that period at the Met could really explain but now with computers it is easy to understand why the 1963 big freeze lasted so long compared to bad winters since 1962-1963!
