Don't know if anyone can help but I saw the strangest little bird today in my garden. It was very small and thin, no bigger than a wren but thinner, but it just flew in looked at the bird seed feeder hovered for a couple of seconds and flew off. The strange thing was it was sort of upright all the time with it's head at the top and the rest of it's body sort of hanging and it was mainly pale green, possible stripy, it took me by suprise. I have never seen anything like it and I promise I have not been on the sherry!!!! It was definately a bird as it had a longish beak. (started doubting myself thinking it might have been a big butterfly/moth)
Maybe it is time to take my tablets!!!

It sounds that you may have seen a Goldcrest (they are even smaller than a Wren)
They are Green/Grey and have a stripey yellow area on the top of their head

Another possibility is a female siskin. They are very small and quite upright looking. Without a picture (or even with in my case) it's hard to say

Yes I have but didn't get anything very helpful, suggested a warbler but I think they are too big for what I saw. I have been looking online and the nearest I can get is the hummingbird!! but I don't think they live here at the moment.
Just have to see if it returns.
Hi Chez, I would say the Goldcrest (a type of warbler) fits your bill - they are truly tiny - the smallest bird in Europe, mainly olive green in colour with a black-bordered yellow stripe on top of their heads. They are well known for hovering, especially whilst feeding.

Goldcrest seems the most likely at this time of year. :))
We don't have hummingbirds this side of the Atlantic, reported hummingbirds in my experience turn out to be Hummingbird Hawk Moths :)))

I'd say it was probably a Goldcrest too. The mannerisms sound right, they tend not to keep still for very long either.

To be honest, these last few weeks I haven't had much time (or felt too out of sorts) to spend much time watching my birds. The trouble with visiting Goldcrests are that they're that small you miss them so easily!
When I really listen (over the Sparrows!) I can hear the calls of Goldcrests, so I think they're still nearby. I'd be over the moon with a breeding pair, lol! Getting greedy now :o)
