Hi,
Short eared and Long eared owls are long distance migrants, so they have long wings. They also hunt in more open areas than Tawny owls normally do.
Barn Owls disperse widely but don't migrate huge distances ordinarily.
Tawny owls don't move about much so they have shorter broader wings ( they also hunt in woods where long wings would be a hindrance)
Little owls aren't migratory so have shortish wings.

Thanks for the info seymouraves very interesting
I spent saturday afternoon (20.02) in the area around the Ouse Washes and spent nearly an hour watching a SEO flying around with its lazy wingbeats then dipping down into cover avoiding the persistent buzzing of a kestrel. Scanning around, it then looking me straight in the eye (through the bins) before taking to the wing again and contining to scout the drainage ditches - I assume there was alot of vole activity!? Fanatastic sighting and that alone made my day. Then, as I got in the car to drive away "another" took flight out of the scrub just ahead of the car - not a SEO but a Barn Owl! I kept the car steady in 2nd gear as the Barn owl flew parallel with us for what seemed to be a 100m or so - incredible! Perhaps thee best daytime Owl(s) encounter I've ever had! Have to say though, although both species are indeed much the same size, the Short eared Owl certainly appeared to have much larger wings than the Barn Owl.
wow that sounds amazing wish i was there
thanks
