I know that this is a big ask, but, would you please consider signing this pledge/petition?
Each year, millions of sharks are hunted, have their fins sliced off, and then are thrown back into the ocean, dead or dying. "Finning" is done to satisfy an appetite for dishes such as shark fin soup, which may be served by Chinese restaurants and during Lunar New Year celebrations, weddings, and other events.
Consuming shark fin soup is cruel and unnecessary. Shark fin does not have much taste and it may contain high levels of mercury. Alternatives exist.
You can help stop shark finning and save these endangered species by signing this "no shark fin" pledge and encouraging your friends and family to do the same. Working together, we have the power to make a difference for sharks and the species that depend on them. Help stop needless cruelty and save endangered species: Say NO to shark fin products.

Thanks for reading, and hopefully signing the petition.

Hi, Andy - I've signed it.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Question: is it a petition or a pledge? If its a petition, who are they petitioning? If its a pledge, I won't sign it, as I'm vegetarian and I dont think I know anyone that would eat shark fin soup etc anyways...
Home again, home again.

Thanks for posting this Andy, a truly worthwhile cause as these vital oceanic apex predators need all the help they can get. I've signed and will forward on to others. It looks like an International movement to gather as many signatures as possible to lobby governments that have not outlawed this practice to do so from what I can see.
The other information provided on their site is very well thought out and useful to anyone that might want to encourage local restaurants still serving shark fin soup to stop. The links below give some background to the pledge aspect of the campaign;

Thanks Ian appreciate that :o)
And to Sarah W, I'm a vegetarian too, but does that mean that we can't get involved in signing things like this just because we don't eat meat? In my opinion we should add our names too. Aren't we vegetarians because we like to see the animals that provide the meat alive?
Thanks also to everyone who has signed and/or spread the word about this.
Really really appreciate you all taking the time to do it.
Regards,
AndyW.
