I live near to this and I have seen them flying over my garden, they are based at Rockingham Forest. I have been emailing the site manager and he was telling me all about the kites.I email him to see if what I saw over my garden was a red kite.
I feel very sad that some one can do this to some spectacular bird of prey.
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
Hi, I signed the petition when it first came out which I think was a couple of months ago - for someone like me who has never seen a red kite, it makes me very sad and angry.

Lovely photo, Davidm. Some people seem to like to shoot anything that moves, sadly. (I signed the petition a while ago, too).

There best reasons fall far short of any realistic cause . . . . it is possible a good job I was not near them with a 12 bore or you would be writing about me . . . . I was up in Yorshire a short while ago specially to 'shoot' the red kites ~ here is my effort!

yours is a great photo, you must have a good camera, this is as good as I got.
Hi Janet,
Its a nice pic ~ especially if it holds good memories for you . . .
Keep birding,
DavidM
I didn't have to go far as this one flew over my house, hope it wasn't the one that got shot, :-(
David and Janet, great photos of a beautiful bird. I would have thought that farmers would want these birds on their lands - keeping the population of ferrals down. I grew up on a farm in Australia, we loved our wedge tailed eagles- they had an appetite for rabbit rather than lambs!
cheers

Fabulous pictures of the Red Kites
Again with the photograhic pictures.
It only enhances peoples knowledge already of what they see and want to see. Got to be a good as RSPB photographic pictures.
Love to see the true photographers any day on the RSPB Forum anyday!!!!

As you know, the bird of prey appeal closed last Monday. I want to extend a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who signed the pledge and who promoted it further to help us get even more signatures. The grand total exceeds 200,000 pledges, which makes it the biggest appeal of its kind in RSPB history. It really shows the strength of feeling that is out there about illegal killing, and should send a clear message to the Government that they must ensure that the wildlife laws we already have are given the teeth they need and deserve so we can see an end to these wanton acts of destruction. The pledge is going to be presented to the Government next week. There will be coverage of the hand-over on the RSPB website, and those of you who receive the e-newsletter can read about it in the newsletter also.
That's excellent news Trochilus! Let's hope that this voice is heard LOUD & CLEAR!!!
