red Kites shot

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/northamptonshire/8468599.stm

I live near to this and I have seen them flying over my garden, they are based at Rockingham Forest. I have been emailing the site manager and he was telling me all about the kites.I email him to see if what I saw over my garden was a red kite.

I feel very sad that some one can do this to some spectacular bird of prey.

Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!

  • Hi Janet

This is one of the awful things that we have to hear about out well loved BoP's

Goodness knows what pleasure people get out of killing any BoP's.  Their 'brain dead' behaviour is apparant, and  sadly there are people who exist who behave in this manner

Just a disgrace to human kind.

Hope they get the people who commited the offense

    Regards

    Kathy and Dave

So do I & I hope they string them up good & proper! They always get such stupidly lenient punishments that it's no wonder it doesn't stop!

  • Janet, thanks for letting us know about this very sad shooting of a red Kite.  The disgust I feel will not reach the person's conscience, who enjoyed killing the poor bird. This will feel even more personal to you, because of your contact with the site manager.

  • Oh how awful, I just fail to understand the mentality of these people!  The illegal killing of Birds of Prey is funded on an outdated, misunderstood and somewhat considerably ignorant belief.  Sadly though it still continues.

The biggest problem I think is that wildlife crime is not one that is of high enough importance, that and the punishment isn't severe enough.

Let's hope they catch whoever is doing this and they get the penalty they truly deserve!

  • there is quite a lot of farm land near here, and I know the farmers don't like birds of prey, you heard them saying that they will kill them if they get near they land, what do they think they will do fly off with one of their sheep!

  • Thanks Janet for sharing the news with us all.

If this news makes you sad, angry, or sick to the stomach, there's something you should do right now:

PLEASE SIGN THE RSPB PETITION TO STOP THE ILLEGAL KILLING OF BIRDS OF PREY.  http://www.rspb.org.uk/supporting/campaigns/birdsofprey/index.asp

They are collecting names to demonstrate to the Government how important this issue is to the British public, and that stronger laws and penalties are needed to protect our most magnificent birds.  Please sign it and ask your friends and family to as well.

Off my soapbox now.  Thanks everyone.

    L.

  • I have just signed and posted the petition on my facebook.

  • Thank you Janet and LB for bringing this to our attention.

It is appalling and disgusting. I hope they catch the people concerned and punish them accordingly.

    I have signed the petition.

    Cheers, Linda.

  • Thanks Lucky Bustard. I had just posted the same link, so have deleted mine. I hope all, who have not already signed, do so NOW.

  • Brenda, we must have posted at the same time...  That happens when there's something so important we all want to say something at once!
