Joined the RSPB quite recently . Was sent this link by a friend, and was surprised not to find any comments on here about it (or have I missed them?) http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/news/uk_news/Environment/article1153428.ece
I hadn't seen this before.....absolutely appalling!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Disgrace!!! Shouldn't be allowed!!
I live in a small town so the numbers and types of birds around is unreal. Local farmers have problems with birds on their land but they use machines that give off the sound of gun shots and even plastic cats that sit on fenches.
NIE (Northern Ireland Electricity) has fake owls on their pile ons!! Belfast City Council uses all sorts of things to deter pigeons without killing them.
Plus public safety??? Shooting Moorhens in a public park, fishery or by a river!!! Shooting Robins in a factory!! Lapwings at an airport!!! I would like to known which councils, business and airports have taken this measure. I would say shooting birds in these locations would be a health, safety and security risk.
Where I work I wouldn't trust anyone with a water pistol!!!
I also recently returned home from holiday via Heathrow. I noticed a total of 5 Kestrels hovering close by as my plane made its way to the terminal. Have these Kestrels been introduced to deter birds??
