One would assume that the suspected area in which the original barbaric act took place would be on or very close to a shooting estate. The land owner should be the first port of call for the police closely followed the the estate manager/game keeper.
If it wasn't then it could be just a random act but the movement of the bird away from the location would suggest something a little more organised.
I still find it hard to believe that in this day and age such Victorian and outdated attitudes still exist toward our native wildlife and BoP in-particular.
Apart from all our feelings of disgust there needs to be a word of warning to anyone finding a bird like this and that is be careful about handling the corpse,certain poisons can be absorbed through the skin take care.
