Your chance to influence the laws protecting our wildlife

You may remember seeing a number of blog posts and forum discussions mentioning the Law Commission review, vicarious liability and the need to make sure that the laws that protect our wildlife are fit for purpose. Well now is your chance to make your feelings known as the law commission consultation is live. Please take the time to have a look at our web page linked below where we provide some guidance and all the details needed to submit your suggestions, you can email your comments to wildlife@lawcommission.gsi.gov.uk and please do so before 30 November 2012.

Please spare the few minutes required to do this as we have a real chance to make a difference here and it is vital for the future of our threatened species like the hen harrier in England. If you have any contributions to make that you would like to share on this thread to help spur on others to comment please feel free to share!

Thank you.

  • Ian,well you mention Vicarious Liability in Scotland and ironically England has a much worse problem with Hen Harriers. There is a e-petition for V L and staggeringly only about 10,000 signatures.Do not believe the top brass at RSPB have give there absolute backing and publicity to this meaning by my calculations at the very best if every signature is a RSPB  member about 1% have given it their backing.Amazing as this bird is for all practical purposes extinct in England.

It seems as if the RSPB sees other animals and non native birds and other conservation issues more important than putting  some effort into saving a native bird.

Amazing from over a million members less than 10,000 care.Suppose you may kick me off for insinuating that RSPB members do not care but cannot put any other outlook on it.

  • Sooty, a word of caution here, please read through all of the information posted before going in guns blazing, it helps to have your facts in order too!

If you had taken the time to read the post properly and the link you will see that I was referring to the chance to get vicarious liability written into law in England and Wales as it is in Scotland, this is a golden opportunity to do something positive for wildlife protection.

You have commented a number of times bemoaning the lack of impetus behind the petition on VL, which may or may not get a discussion in parliament with no promise of positive outcome. If that is what you want to do then that is your choice, personally I spent my evening writing to the law commission panel outlining the changes I think are needed to make our wildlife laws fit for purpose and I would recommend that everyone else does the same whilst we still have the chance. Have you submitted a comment to the Law Commission panel yet Sooty? Has anyone else?

Whilst we are still promoting the e-petition you refer to on our website and we did promote it on our forums, our main focus where we know we can make a real difference is through the law commission consultation so come on, let's grasp this opportunity!
