Shooting of Turtle Doves

I have just picked this up on Bird Forum.

I leave it to you to make your own comments.   Bear in mind this is a British Company.

  • I really don't get these people who seem to think it's perfectly all right to shoot any threatened species...they must be totally unconcerned for any long term effects of their incredibly selfish actions.  It gives a really bad impression of anybody who shoots, whether target or otherwise.  Why can't all these idiots go after something in dire need of controlling, like grey squirrels?  Any red squirrel would applaud that.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

As always Clare it is the few selfish people who get legitimate folk tarred with the same brush as them.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • Tell me about it.  I'm a targer shooter - some people react with interest, others clearly think there's something wrong with me!

  • Shot small and full bore years ago, even at Bisley once, nothing wrong with you.

  • You've shot at Bisley?  How did you get on?  It remains the only place I've ever cross shot at.  It's so utterly unique, it's like stepping back into the Colonial days!

  • Pretty badly it was back in the '60's when I was in my 20's,I think the atmosphere overwhelmed most of our club,we were quite good on our home turf, heck of an experience for a 20 something from the turnip tops.

  • I can appreciate that!  The first time I went was in 1997 when I'd only been shooting a year, and I went on my own.  Quite an experience!!  Nowadays the only thing about Bisley that defeats me is the cost.
