I wonder if anyone knows the answer to this. ?
While out bird watching the other day. My mission to see a pair of Greater spotted woodpeckers, which I had see a few weeks ago. There was evidence of a great place for them to nest.. I was hoping to get some photographs of the birds.
On my first visit to this location. I also saw what I thought could be a possible nest site for a pair of Buzzards, both of which i had observed displaying close to the small woods nearby. So on my return I thought I would check out the tree I had seen a few weeks earlier, which contained a stick built nest, the sticks where more heavier than those used by a Magpie or a Crow. This is what led me to believe it was possibly a Buzzards nest.
On my return I saw what I thought was a tail sticking out of the side of the,it was broad and quite square in shape. As it was quite high in the maybe 30/40ft high, it was difficult to tell. I took a picture with my camera, and used the zoom playback to see if it was what I thought it was. See the photo I took and you will see my dilema.
Then out of the blue the bird left the nest. It was a Buzzard, She was big, very big as you can probably imagine. It took my breath away, the sheer size of the bird and what I must admit the shock.
I would like to return and take some photographs hopefully when the chicks have hatched, of the parents feeding them. From the ground and at a safe distance.
My question is, is this illeagle, would I need a permit. I will tell nobody where this location is, whatever the answer.
You can understand my excitement as a keen amateur photographer.
A little guidance on this dilema would be appreciated. Thank you.
If it's not outdoors it's not worth watching.
