This is good news for the lizards and Wales!
(Take note Kat as you're going soon! ;-))

Ohhh fascinating stuff! I wonder if they will be released before I go to Wales? If so, they'll only be roughly an hour away from where we are staying and I'm SURE I can find some excuse to head that way and "oh lets take the dog for a walk along the coast" lol
Does anyone know if the lizards at Chester Zoo are viewable to the public?
It's good to see a new reintroduction site for the sand lizard, hopefully they will be many more to follow!

Great news Marjus.
Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. ~ Mark Twain
It's years since I last went so not sure but see here; it says over 30 species but not how many of those are on display!
Edit: Indeed Judi!
I vaguely remember going to Chester Zoo when I went to Wales as a kid...hopefully will go on this holiday! I want to visit the butterflies! lol
That's great news Marjus!!!
Kat - if you go, and if you happen to find an old ten shilling note, it's mine!! I lost it on a school trip there when I was about 10. LOL.
Cheers, Linda.

LOL I'll keep my eyes out Linda!
That's a good news story MarJus. After 60 years, Wales will welcome them back I am sure. Perhaps it won't be long before someone on the forum has seen one and taken a photo. So good that we are breeding and reintroducing species where they have become extinct.
bye for now
I'm really pleased about this - Ynys Las is a remarkable place (not far from Ynys Hir) Where you can see wonderful sea birds such as Manx Shearwater and Gannet, a lovely sand dune system and fossil tree trunks at low tide. The Countryside Council for Wales have a good visitor centre with lots for kids to do and see.
Well worth a visit and now Sand Lizards too!
Let's hope we can keep the crowds of surfers under control as well as those ***** jet skis so that habitat is not threatened.

God gave us two ears and one mouth for a very good reason!
