Two 200ft wind turbines are to be built in the fields near our small village. Leaving aside noise issues and the visual impact we are concerned about local birdlife. Our village lies in a small valley with copses and woodland and sightings of buzzards are frequent., both above the fields around the village and in the area of the proposed turbines.
This is nottinghamshire, so not an area noted for its wild landscapes etc.
Any facts or figures on birdlife and turbines??
Hi candlends.

Hi Candlends,
The information which I think should be considered as well as the impact on birds etc. is the question of the impact on soil PH and whether the development includes plans and costings for decommissioning.
Just think of the tons of cement that are going to be brought onto the site. Is the soil on the site before building acid or alkaline? After building it certainly is going to become more alkaline! This may not matter in cultivated fields but if it is on moorland then it most certainly does matter because it will alter the range of plants that can grow there.
How will the company (or more likely the company which owns the turbines when they reach the end of their life) dispose of the huge concrete towers? Again on farmland they will probably be carted away but on open hillsides I am afraid that they will just be roughly broken up and left.
I can find little of no information on these questions anywhere.
