We are at present trying to persuade our local council not to allow planners to grant planning permission for houses to be built on a small overgrown area near our houses. It supports a wide variety of bird life, insects and small mammals most of which visit our gardens to use the bird feedersand/or pollen rich plants.I am looking for help and advice as to how we can be an effective(but legal) opposition to these plans. We have contacted our local councillor to ask him to speak on our behalf at any planning meetings but wonder if there are any other bodies, such as the Rspb who could help us fight our corner as it were. All sensible suggestions gratefully received.Thank you Kind Regards,.Woodpigeon
Hi Woodpigeon, has anybody done an independent habitat survey and species count on it? If you think/know that it has high value could Natural England be of any help

Hello
Please have a look at our web pages called protecting wildlife sites near you, hopefully some of the information and contacts within these pages will give you some practical advice on how to proceed.
Feel free to ask any questions on the forum and good luck!

Thanks for that.We have done our own mini survey-and the developers say they are going to do an ecology survey.I'l ask for their results as well.
Thank you for the information.I will certainly explore every avenue. The fight goes on!!
The area we are trying to preserve is only a small part of a larger old factory site-it used to be the car park-which has naturalised over the last 10 years so they could still build on the rest of the site while leaving the wild part alone. This is all we are asking them to do.We live in hopes.
