I someone has been arrested for the illegal killing of a protected species AGAIN!
Story here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-14042150
Is it ever going to stop?
Mike
Pssst! Nudge nudge Wanna see some pictures Here
That is such a sad story Mike. I know nothing about red kites and I have no idea why they are killed I am afraid. But I hate hearing about fellow human beings and the havoc they bring to our protected wildlife.
bye for now

Sadly, Mike, I don't think it will while there are these stupid ignorant people about. Ironically, Red Kites are scavengers and no threat to livestock. I believe they have only recently been reintoduced into the Grizedale Forest in Cumbria. Luckily, they are thriving elsewhere particularly in the south near me where I see them daily and also in Wales.

Let us all hope this man receives the full force of the courts and is suitably punished rather than let off with a slap of the wrists. May it be a lesson to all similarly minded farmers, landowners and the rest. It's about time the media took this problem on board and publish the facts.
Cheers, Linda.

I hope they throw something heavier at him than a book! Sick beast.

Not sure when this will stop, probably not until the punishments meted out by the courts are much more severe. What surprises me in this case is that the area is not one nomall associated with large shooting estates which is where most raptor persecution seems to stem from.Living in North Yorkshire this is fairly commonplace to us nowadays but that is no excuse for us dropping our guard

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
I don't think it will ever stop - there will always be a handful of bad eggs in society but they need to be dealt with swiftly and effectively so the pose no further risk. No matter the punishment, some people will still commit crimes, society just needs to make sure they don't get a second chance to repeat their crimes.
Well said KatTai!

Agree entirely Kat,think it might help if media helped by explaining that not everything with a hooked beak is a danger to either livestock or game birds.
Sooty - that is what I was trying to say about the media getting involved. You put it much better than I did!
Sorry Linda did not mean to steal your thunder, brain a bit sluggish, best wishes Den.
