Two nest boxes failed, despite mealworms being taken in every day.
Our council has been doing 'tree management' ie decimating all the small shrubs etc. this is happening in Sankey Valley Park Warrington - has anyone else had the same isuue?
Please let us know how you have beeb getting on.....
Here's a funny - our neighbour who has a stone 'garden', feeders with no actual food in them, wonders why he doesn't get any birds visiting.......:0:)

I agree with doggie, I have never known so many young birds about. Everywhere I seem to go the bushes are full of them. It shows you can't make general assumptions from what you see around you. I might just be in a lucky area.

Hi tweetypies,
Lots of youngsters here too, especially greenfinches, which is good news.
Maybe the council's tree management has something to do with disturbing your nesting birds.

If your local council have been carrying out vegetation clearance during the summer months then you have a reason to be concerned. Our advice is not to cut shrubs, hedges or trees where birds could be nesting between March and August. Maybe a quick call to the council to ask why they are doing the work at this time would be worthwhile! If you know of any active nests in areas where work is going on, make sure you point this out to the contractors.

Plenty of Great Tit, Blue Tit, Greater Spotted Woodpecker, House Sparrow and Blackbird fledglings visiting my garden. It's been a darned side wetter in South Wales than the rest of the country, so I don't think the worm eaters, the thrushes, have struggled as much here.
