I have just been working in the garden this evening and noticed two men with three lurcher type dogs walking the adjacent field - I saw three hares there this morning. I have notified the police and the complaint has been logged by, presumably, a civilian support assistant in Aberdeen.
OH has taken photos and is away to try to get the car registration - we can see the car from home.
It will be interesting to see how soon this complaint is followed up!

I do hope there is a successful end to this, Claire. It is a dreadful crime. It could just be the men were walking their dogs? I like to think the best of people!!!

The police did call me back to say they had no patrols in the area!

These men probably know where the police are out and about, which gives them some confidence - they knew I had spotted them but behaved in a very unconcerned manner. They are also working the fields on the border of Grampian and Tayside police areas which makes detection a bit more difficult because of communication issues.
I'm getting a bit worked up about this because I just loath the sport and thought it had been brought under control here.
Just be careful if they spotted you.
I quite understand how you feel, I would be the same. Badger digging is rife round my area. They use terriers to corner a badger in its sett, which they then dig out. The badger is then taken away and put in a ring with up to three fighting dogs. It's barbaric.
I have this idealised view of what ought to happen to hare coursers. They ought to be made to run across fields with mad bulls chasing them

Claire, Try the Police Wildife Officer. Tayside always had a very high profile officer in Alan Stewart who is now a civilian (unless he has retired).

Thanks Bob, I shall contact the Tayside Wildlife Officer, although the incident occurred in Aberdeenshire. I presume Grampian police have a designated Wildlife officer also but it would do no harm to share the information as these guys probably work Angus as well.
