Our area made the local TV news this evening for all the wrong reasons.Once again it seems we are the worst area for crimes against birds of prey, makes me ashamed to be a Yorkshireman.I know the police wildlife officers and the investigation team from the RSPB will be doing their best to catch these criminals but it is such a big area and they are thinly spread it will be a hard job.It must only be a small minority who are responsible for these shootings and poisonings but they are making a big impact on our raptors.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Oh Seaman,
It is so distessing isn't it - but chin up - I have recently had a visit from a Yorkshire school and what a wonderful bunch of kids they were! They were so-o fascinated by our rescued raptors and obviously committed, even at the age of 10/11, to conservation, that I am sure they will join the ranks of those of us who care!
We get quite a lot of Yorkshire families visiting us through the summer and we find they are very supportive of our rescue and conservation efforts!
As you say, it is a big area but there's an awful lot of good in 'them thar hills'!
Jenni
God gave us two ears and one mouth for a very good reason!
Thanks for that Jenni, yes it's great to get kids early something sticks with them forevermore.Keep up the good work there we have it on our places to visit list

Hi Seaman
I can imagine how you feel, and I would feel exactly the same, but sadly I don't know what the solution is. These morons will never change.
Best wishes Chris

Hi Seaman,I know what you mean but lots of places very similar and there is no way you should feel ashamed for the crimes that are committed by very small number of people.Spent a lovely week at Kettlewell about 3 years ago and found several bird lovers which is the other side of the coin.

Too true Sooty, most of my experience is with raptor watching in the eastern half of the Dales ( I was at Kettlewell Youth Hostel many years ago) and I reckon at least 99.9% of the folk either like to see the birds or at leastgive them space and a lot of the remaining minority behave as they do because of pressure from above to protect their jobs etc.,but I have been on that bandwagon before and folk will get sick of hearing me.As usual it is the minority that messes things up for the rest.
