Two part-time gamekeepers have been convicted for trying to kill birds of prey using a pole-trap – a barbaric device outlawed for over 100 years. Read the latest news from our investigations team.
Why not check out the news from the wildlife enquiries team?
I don't think I want to read about barbarism towards birds of prey - I'll take your word for it and say HOORAH that they were convicted - let's hope they got sentenced to enough to act as a deterrent to others.
Great to hear that they were caught and fined, Tom but I don't think the fines were anywhere nearly big enough. Congratulations to the RSPB investigators for their surveillance leading to the convictions.
Good news that they've been prosecuted and convicted but so depressing that these sort of practices are still going on. I don't think fines are enough to deter these sort of people. Perhaps, in addition, they should do some sort of community service in conservation work preferably on a site well away from where they live so that they are really inconvenienced.

You have to ask what in this day and age drives game keepers to still do this whether new, old or part time. It's about time the land owners and or employers of these people were bought to book as well.

They should have got a hefty jail sentence not a fine :(

Owning a Nikon doesn't make you a photographer... it makes you a Nikon owner!

I think this is at the heart of the problem, the 'keepers are usually in a tied house so if they do not obey the bosses they are out of a house as well as a job.I understand hat Scottish law is changing to take this into account. What we must bear in mind also is the fact tat not all keepers or estate owners are guilty of these crmes but they are the ones that get every one a bad name
