Hi.... Does anyone know if red kite nests should be reported to anyone eg RSBP for protection?
Thanks, Tracey
Hi Tracey
No Red Kite nests don't have any reportable special protection, but are as protected as all birds nests under the terms of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
Best wishes Chris

Red kites are doing so well now that we don't need to worry about keeping an eye on them all (in fact, that would be quite beyond our resources now!)
But, if you feel able to, why not register on the BTO Atlas home page here: http://blx1.bto.org/atlas/ and upload your record (and indeed any other bird sightings this summer) so that when the Atlas is published, your red kites are shown as 'confirmed breeding' for that particular 10km grid square. It's quite easy to do as a 'roving record' and you can make a real contribution to our knowledge of how many of our birds are faring across the UK.
All the best,
Colin
Nice plug for the atlas there Colin,I always try to put my sightings on there or if a full list, use Birdtrack
