Hi
I have a question :-
We believe there are a pair of kites nesting, near our workplace, and wondered if we need to notify anyone?
Many thanks
Deb
I wouldnt have thought so, red kites are pretty much nation wide now so unless they are somewhere detrimental to their health or unusual i would just enjoy them, they are a wonderful bird. :P
Don't know my tits from my elbow.
Thank you very much, they are absolutely beautiful:)
Hello Deb
Welcome to the forum.
Lucky you having a Red Kite nest near where you work.
I agree you don't need to notify anyone but you could keep a weather eye out for them to make sure no-one disturbs the nest (which is Illegal).
Let us know how they get on and if you see fledglings. That would be so exciting!!
Cheers
Pipit

Hi Deb
How exciting for you. I am a great fan of Red Kites and see them every day where I live in Berkshire. You don't say what part of the country you live in. If you live in the Chilterns or surrounding area the Southern England Kite Group (SEKG) are interested in knowing about Red Kites nests but not just sightings of kites.
Here's the link if you interested but you are under no obligation.

There may be other reporting arrangements for different parts of the country.
If they are nesting I hope you will keep us informed of progress.
Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Hi again
I meant to post a piccy of one sitting in a tree - sadly not nesting. You don't see them perched very often.
Deb, Can I suggest thast you notify the County Bird recorder of wherever you live. The recorder will need that information to monitor movement of the species. This is especially true if you live in an area where kites are moving in.

Deb,as Bob says it could be worth contacting your county bird recorder and also try to keep an eye on the site yourself without making the nest too obvious. Not sure what part of the country you are in but Red Kites, like most other raptors, are not welcome in certain areas.
