Having just watched SKY News and an investigation into a Duck Farm I find myself upset and totally disgusted with activities at this farm. How a farm owner can be unaware of such cruelty is beyond belief. The offenders should serve time in my view and the farmer should loose his licence for life. How these grown men can can themselves human is beyond me.Here is a link but be warned it is distressinghttp://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Sky-News-Investigation-Finds-Evidence-Of-Free-Range-Ducks-Being-Abused-By-Farm-Workers/Article/201102115922412?lpos=UK_News_First_Home_Article_Teaser_Region_4&lid=ARTICLE_15922412_Sky_News_Investigation_Finds_Evidence_Of_Free-Range_Ducks_Being_Abused_By_Farm_Workers
Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. ~ Mark Twain

Hi JudiM agree with you completely but would just like to make the point it is a small number of bad humans and not bad duck farmers,I feel sure most people rearing ducks would respect them and treat them well.
OMG that is disgusting.
left me feeling very, very sad for those poor ducks :(
hope the RSPCA prosecutes
what goes around comes around!

Im too afraid to click on the link. I cant stand any cruelty to any animals, its got to be the lowest of the lowest!
Big tough men arn't they !!!!!! cowards. Got no time for wasters like these, same goes for Badger baiters Etc.
As I have said before on a previous thread, the biggest pest on this planet is the human race.
Feed The Birds....not the cats!!!!
I know....my spelling's crap !!

You may be right that most people rearing ducks would respect them and treat them well, but in this instance the farmer himself should be prosecuted along with those brutal men. His staff are his responsibility - and should be managed appropriately. The farmer has no excuse whatsoever.
I am disgusted and angry, and the RSPB should be taking all steps necessary to prosecute. They need stringing up. All of them. I'm so glad we don't have a local Waitrose shop.
Cheers, Linda.

I saw this on sky news this morning and it was awful. These sort of people are sadistic and should be prosecuted. They have them on film and so there is no defence. I agree with Big Robbo, it takes a cowardly person to cause harm to a harmless animal like a duck.

Let not your heart be troubled
agree the farmer and workers should be prosecuted.
as for waitrose... they normally take steps to ensure the welfare of their animal produce and have stopped stocking gressingham food products immediately.
might I suggest that you go to the website of the food producer in question... pop your postcode into the 'where to buy' link down the bottom and then call the restaurants and butchers in question or pen them a letter suggesting that they find alternative suppliers for their stores and restaurants?
btw - the Gordon Ramsay restaurant on Royal Hospital Road is listed as serving it.
That's awful :(
I've seen ducks and duck bits labelled 'Gressingham' in Tesco, so it's not just Waitrose involved - good to hear they (Waitrose) have taken prompt action, and hopefully other stockists will do the same.

a quick search of the Sainsburys website reveals they sell 'Distressingham' products too...
and i quote...
"Tender and succulent duck inner fillets from the deliciously gamey Gressingham duck, exclusively bred and carefully housed on select East Anglian farms. Class A"
I think they become tender and succulent when you swing them about by their necks... not 100% sure on this though.
