swans

i live in aberdeenshire there is a pond near by with about 20 swan. i would like some information about game shooting.  this time of year we have a lot of shooting partys around us and i hate it i know there is nothing i can do about them coz i have been to the police . the shooter disturb the swans and they cant settel last year i had to call the rspb because of a poor swan had hit the power cables and had to be put down . i was so mad coz i know it was the shooters fault .  i all ways thought shooters could not shoot beside swans.  today i watch them shoot in a field where the swans where resting and i watch in fear as  all of the  swans took off and heading towards the   power cables .. please could someone let me know if there is a law or not.  the shooters say they are allowed to shoot among the swans . please let me know thank you

Wildfowling is allowed among swans. They aren’t protected from disturbance, except if prevented from accessing their nest/young, however that shouldn’t be an issue here as the wildfowling season (inland) finishes on 31 Jan, well before the breeding season.

Unfortunately, there’s probably not a lot that can be done in this case, unless there is evidence of swans being shot. If this is the case, please contact the Wildlife Crime Officer of your local police force or the Investigations Team at RSPB Scotland.

Please remember that in the case of any sick or injured bird, the SSPCA should be contacted on 03000 999 999.
