I thought that all those interested in bees, particularly bumble bees, would like to look at the Bumble Bee Conservation Trusts' website. It is a good time to join now, as work can be done now to help these amazing and essential creatures. Suitable garden plants can be ordered, once we know what; and its good to have time to learn about the different kinds of bumble bee while they are all still asleep.
This Trust has strong links with the R.S.P.B. as their conservation work is obviously in harmony ---as we see from Howards bee friendly garden at Rainham Marshes.
Membership starts from just £12.00 per year, and this includes 3 magazines and best of all, a bee identification guide.
Birds are my first love, but without bees working their little socks off, there won't be nearly as many birds out there for us to enjoy.
Please ! Just look!
A smile costs nothing, but may be treasured more than gold.
Thank you for that info, sounds like a charity worth supporting. Bees are disappearing so fast without a clear reason and it would really affect each single one of us.
Also, welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy it here!
Cheers Tern

I will look, definitely.
Love bees, we have a garden border edge of nepeta which is cut back during the summer and produces more flowers late summer/autumn. We also have a lavender hedge and two different species of buddleia.
Underneath a very old holly tree in the garden - prickles and bark , there was a colony of bees but I don't know the species, also bees which seem to have a home in the grass.
Thanks Joy for your post.

May I join Joy in encouraging interest. I joined last year and it's really interesting. I've also found a lot of my neighbours and friends are interested. people seem to love bumble bees and It's so easy to help them by making your garden more beautiful. One or two friends are very worried about feeding birds because of rats, but they are happy to encourage bees. And of course alot of what helps bees helps birds as well.
Edit add on: Just saw yours ClaireM. You are so lucky to have had a colony. Don't you just love the murmuring of bees in the lavendar.
thanks i,ve bookmarked the web site
