Another update on the same issue
The latest link http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-12105157 Now it is 3,000 birds that have died!!!!!!
It was New Year fireworks that have been targeted in causing the birds deaths Regards Kathy and Dave
Simply a sad story, if it was fireworks that caused all the beautiful birds to drop, that's rather quite sad the way humans caused all this.
I never liked fireworks, I used to cry my head off when I was like 5. I just don't like it - too loud, too bright, too smokey and smelly! I'm sure birds don't like it either when they just want to go to sleep

Hi Tern
It is a sad thing to happen to the birds
I am like you and have always hated fireworks - they are so dangerous, and expensive too
If you look at the video in the link there are Starlings mixed in with the Blackbirds too. I do not remember hearing anything about Starlings at all.
Hope they get their sums right about the Blackbirds and the other species ie Starlings
Regards Kathy and Dave
So sad
It has happened in Louisana now :-(

I suspect as starlings (an introduced species) are not particularly welcomed in the US and are considered a pest there is good reason they are not mentioned and the focus is on the blackbirds.
