I live in a small block of flats by the sea and the residents have sought the advice of a sea gull removing service who recommend the removal of these birds nests in every season. I am not happy with this, least because I am sure it is against the law but that it is not the right thing to do. Is there another way these birds can be less inclined to want to nest there than to remove their nests?
After they have bred you can try to deter them from nesting in the same place again next time

Gull nests started appearing in my neigbourhood during lockdown, when people were feeding them with their leftovers. Aside from the noise and mess, they were deterring all the smaller birds. The trick is to stop the nesting early, when they start hanging around in March and April, encouraging them to go elsewhere. Two wanders around the area a day, early morning and afternoon, armed with a catapult and snaps has been totally effective. No great proficiency necessary. The bang in their general area is sufficient.
We, too, are suffering from a multitude of gulls, in North Liverpool. This started 3 years ago, and I agree with all Chris says. It's torture.
They have been beating on our roof for 3 years now, and as stated by Chris, they return to the same place each year, for 20 years or more.
Today, a baby chick had dropped down into our garden. We were in a quandary...we couldn't let the dog into our garden, for fear of him killing it (which actually happened 3 years ago, and he tried to attack us every time we went near him). We couldn't let our poor little cat out for fear of her being attacked/killed/taken. Every time we ventured outside they swooped down on us as if to attack, screeching horribly, and I've no doubt they would attack! I am really terrified, to the point that we are thinking of selling up and moving.
My nerves are bad, I'm constantly worrying about it all, and we can't go anywhere near where the chick is.
It's a total nightmare.
I think these are Getting gulls. Evil, nasty creatures, and, personally, even as an animal lover, I can't understand why these creatures are protected! We are NOT protected. What would happen if they attacked a baby or small child? I know this to have happened, tough not here.
What help is there if all we are told is to stay away. We can't move! It's like being a prisoner. I've never hated any creature or animal, but, by God, I do now!
Read the full 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act plus all the updates in full!. Did you know that Schedule 1 protected birds can be disturbed under safety and health. Unless you have read the complete with all updates before you reply. It is not straight forward as you may think.
Regards,
Ian.
No. I didn't know this.
Must we contact the environment section if our council?
Thank you. I will read up on that.
Maybe you should. I wonder if you would like rats in your own home! There are many ways. And of course you know rats with naw through electric cables and can cause fire. They can get on to your roof of your home as well getting in through that way as well as underground and breed very fast and that is as well as rats spreading disease.
Oh no. Do you have rats? Awful rodents, but apparently very intelligent. Or is this an analogy for seagulls?
And of course that is what I m saying along with injecting eggs to be made infertile!
Maybe post something constructive in your replies and then I will reply to you again!
