Not sure if this is the right place to ask but on my walk today I saw a grey heron with what looked like a bullet hole through one wing (happily still flying well) and then a buzzard also with bullet like hole in one wing.

I thought it was against the law to shoot either of these birds but perhaps you can tell me whether it is.  Even if it is illegal I guess it would be difficult to ascertain where they were shot and who was shooting at them!?
