Hi All
I noticed a Blackbird nest with young in my garden yesterday, 16 August.
Yet from early August farmers etc. have been cutting hedges. Are there any other birds nesting in hedges in the middle of August?
Many Thanks
Martin

Not normally as farmers in environmental schemes were and would assume still are have to avoid hedge trimming think starting 1st April and ending 31st July otherwise forgoing payments, presumably this was meant to avoid the nesting season.
It is not always easy to trim hedges in winter on some really wetland farms as the tractor would not be able to get on the fields and as most hedges trimmed by contractor he obviously has to start as early as possible to satisfy all his customers.Iwould have thought lots of experts consulted and considered it safe to hedge trim after 1st August but as you have found there may be odd exceptions.
