I was woken at 6am this morning by the sound of what I thought was an excavator working on some nearby roadworks. On closer investigation I found it to be a tractor hedge cutter which was demolishing my mature 15' high roadside hedge and had already removed a section about 80 metres long. It turned out that a house owner living on the other side of the road had engaged this contractor to demolish my hedge without permission. He wanted a better view you see! Needless to say, I called police who came out and spoke to all concerned.
Has anyone heard of such a thing?
Your thoughts please.
No. The police are consulting their own wildlife officer who in turn consults with the RSPB in such matters.
There two issues here. Firstly the trespass and criminal damage to my hedge and secondly the destruction of birds nests contrary to current UK legislation.
