Hello
Over the years, a large number of pigeons and doves have died after flying into our windows.
Last year a male sparrowhawk died, and recently a young jay.
This morning I looked up just in time to see a female sparrowhawk hit the window, Fortunately she was only stunned..
Does anyone have any suggestion as to how to stop this happening?
In particular, would a bird see an ultraviolet marker?
Any sensible suggestion considered!
Best Wishes

Hi Basul
Welcome to the Forum
Birds and windows do not mix successfully. The common problems are when birds collide with windows or start to attack them. If you find a bird that has flown into a window, it may have suffered from concussion and could have internal injuries. Broken wings or legs are rare. Give the bird a dark safe place to rest for a couple of hours, during which time it will either recover or die from its injuries.
This hazard can be reduced by making the window pane more obvious to the bird. Fixing to the outside of the glass an object which will indicate that an obstacle is present should help. Any image will work - try cutting out random shapes such as half moons, stars etc from coloured self-adhesive plastic.
The most effective shape is likely to be that of a hawk. Self-adhesive bird silhouettes can be purchased from any RSPB shop, many good petshops and garden centres, or by mail order from many large birdfood companies.

Hi basul Unfortunately, this is common. We have large windows in the house, plus a conservatory, so it happens a lot in Spring when the young birds encounter glass for the 1st time.
Some folks put sticky 'decals' in the windows, so that its easier to see that there is something of an obstruction- you may be able to buy these in a Garden Centre or such place. We sometimes hang something ornamental from the window openers, on a string.
