We have had a number of Mallards visiting our site, among others in this small hamlet. My question is that a near neighbour purchased a number of domestic ducks, no problem. However, they have now clipped the wings of a pair of Mallards, to 'add to their collection.'
My question if this legal, as there has not been any visits from our regulars??
As far as I know it is illegal to take any bird from the wild and clip them.

Thank you for your reply. I have never come across this before, others in the hamlet tend, like me to feed & make sure that they remain healthy. If it is illegal to clip, does this incident need to be reported, as I would not like more mallards to loose the ability to be free.

I would report this yes as what they have done is against the law and they may do it again in the future when they decide to add something else to their collection. No wild bird can legally be taken from the wild into captivity unless it is sick or injured.

This would appear no different from taking Goldfinches from the wild using nets or birdlime and then caging them. I hope that you do pursue this, initially perhaps through the RSPCA ,and that the offenders get the book thrown at them.
Every day a little more irate about bird of prey persecution, and I have a cat - Got a problem with that?
Hi Solo and welcome to the Forum. Enjoy yourself here
I have to say I have never heard of people taking Mallard out of the wild to domesticate them a pets
I also understand that Mallards are very dirty and not the cleanest ducks to look after
Anyway, as KatTai has said just report them to the relevent authorities.
Let us know what happens next
