Hunting and hare coursing

Most of you will know that I love hares. http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/forums/t/18884.aspx

To try to help their plight, I joined the Hare Preservation Trust.

In the last HPT newsletter, members were urged to write to their local MPs to voice their concerns about the Hunting ban repeal; which I did, and I received a letter back from mine yesterday.... I'm now feeling somewhat deflated, defeated and rather anxious for the future....

If my local MP won't 'carry my voice' to parliament, what ever can be done? My message to him was about being one of the 86% of the public that was against hunting, and would therefore also be against a repeal. If 86% of the public's opinion doesn't make a difference, how can this possible be fought?????

  • Hi MarJus

Sorry to be so late in replying, but I was away last week.

Just to add my expression of total disgust at the barbaric "sport' of hunting wild animals for pleasure.

I'm afraid this present government is much more likely to reintroduce this obscenity whatever we do. But, as others have said, we must keep trying to stop the repeal!!!!

I live near Altcar which was famous for hare coursing before the ban. I always went each year to protest although it was often a frightening and upsetting experience. I can't bear the thought of this cruel and pointless activity starting up again.

I will keep writing and petitioning as well, until our voices are heard.

    Cheers

    Hi MarJus

I really hope that Mr Owen Patterson will give you a reply without all the twaddle, and avoiding the truth of the matter.

To me some of the people we write to to resolve issues of hunting are probabily related to people who commit these cruel crimes in the first place ie Fox Hunting

Hare coursing seem to attract a different type of persona all together of human undesirables of this world

Anyway please keep us posted what happens here

    Hi Starling

Well done with your thoughts about the issue at hand, and writing to your MP.

I thought MP's where supposed to support people in their area.  That is down to bad manners on your part.

Not a great way for them to get any support in any more voting poles.

  • Well done Marjus, I totally agree with you. What a frustrating reply.

Thank you for the link cottagegardener, I will certainly sign.

You have all written so eloquently about this issue and I fully support your sentiments.

Marjus, don't let the b______ grind you down.

    Kind regards Jane.

  • Wow!! Thanks for your support everyone!! Still not had a reply from Mr Paterson to the last letter! Will push for an answer if none received by next week! :-)

  • Hi Marjus

I love hares too, this is the first year that I have actually seen one !  they are lovely animals.

And what a totally unsatisfactory letter to receive back from your MP, it makes my blood boil.  I can't bear cruelty to any animals and how can they say that hunting an animal down with dogs is not cruel.  I often wonder how they would feel if it was their pet dog or cat that was torn to pieces, I can only assume that these people have no feelings whatsoever.

If we all try to do a little something then hopefully the repeal will not happen, but then we all knew the conservatives would do this and that is one reason why I did not vote for them !

    Keep up the good work

    Linda

    What a wonderful world :))
