I live by the river,Woodpeckers Coots,Moorhens Kingfishers,Water voles live here too, to name but a few.
Last week two large mammals joined us, their chests displaying RSPB fundraising vests. They parked illegally for some hours, had a picnic, and left their picnic rubbish on the grass verge, plastic bags and tinned foil.Is this good for wildlife????
I can only speak for myself and say I am really shocked and disappointed on reading your post. I don't imagine for a second that litter is good for any wildlife. I feel very strongly about "litter louts" because I was lucky enough to have a mother who trained us from a very early age never to leave litter anywhere. It is even more disturbing that these people were wearing RSPB vests! You must be feeling really annoyed, and rightly so in my opinion.
Kind regards Jane.
Disgraceful behaviour and I am sure the RSPB will not be aware of their actions but may be aware of fundraising events in your area. I suggest you drop them an email as they will most definitely not approve of this sort of disregard for the countryside.

Hear hear Jef!!
I can't stand litter, it really really gets me down and I'm proud to call myself a 'grumpy old woman' about it.
I'm a volunteer litter-picker along my stretch of canal and am not scared to challenge anyone I see dropping litter (or not pooper scooping after their dogs too)
I have to say it's the fishermen that are the worst offenders. We have fishing competitions along the canal and after they leave the place is like post Glastonbury!!
Such a shame that the offenders in this post were RSPB fundraisers and I agree with JudiM that you should alert them about their behaviour.
Pipit
They should get a good smack up the side of the head for that.
pure lazyness and there is no earthly need for it.
great ambassdors for the RSPB for sure. ...... NOT!!!

If its no fun Yer no doin it right!
Hi,
obviously as the RSPB doesnt employ these people officially they can't be held officially responsible BUT I'd definitely inform the Lodge.:) I had reason to make a serious complaint about an employee of a national wildlife agency in the field and it was treated seriously and dealt with properly :)

Hi Frogfriend and all of the others who have commented on this.
We are horrified to hear about this and we would urge you to get in touch with us here at the Lodge on 01767 693690 so we can look into this and take appropriate action. We certainly do not endorse this sort of behaviour as it goes against everything we stand for.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Frogfriend
I have just caught up with this thread and I have to say I am shocked at this inappropriate behavior too. It is a 'bad' reflection on the RSPB as they are very respectful people who do a lot for wildllife.
Frogfriend: IanH has suggested what you should do and I hope that these people are found out and the issue resolved.
I hate litter louts too and they are a disgrace to their country.

Kathy and Dave
Hi Frogfriend, and welcome to the forum.
I ditto what everyone else has said. Disgusting behaviour. I was also trained from a very early age not to drop litter, and after picnics to take it all home. It is my main soap box subject.
We have a wonderful stretch of river which is maintained to a very high standard by our Local Authority. One area is set aside for people to picnic, barbeque, play ball games, kiddies playground, swim in the river, and so on. With all this warm weather we have had recently, swarms of teenagers have been enjoying themselves in this area - 17 and 18 year olds I would guess, which makes me believe they are students at our local grammar school. It is difficult to describe the mess they leave behind each day - hundreds of beer cans, portable barbeque remains, paper, *** packets etc. There are litter bins every few yards, plus a huge litter skip with a notice saying "deposit your litter here". The Local Authority couldn't do any more to deter litter, yet there it is. It's dreadful and has hit the local paper headlines, and the schools informed, but on it goes. I love to see youngsters enjoying themselves outdoors rather than glued to laptops and Facebook, but why the hell can't they walk a few yards to deposit the litter?
Cheers, Linda.

Thank you to all who expressed their shock and horror. The R.S.P.B are now on the case and I have received a most apologetic e mail from the organisers. It does go to show that this sort of fundraising is not very reliable,I would certainly not hand over credit card details as you don't know who you are dealing with.

Hi Sparrow
Well said with your apt description of the litter louts. I am of the opinion that I would not drop litter and respect the lovely lush green land we have in the UK
Like yourself, we have Priory Park close to us and it also is a lovely place for a walk and birdwatch
I have noticed a lot of Beer Cans usually dropped close to park benches, and they are always situated in the same places too. So it must be groups of people meeting up at the same place for a few beers etc... (I thought it was illegal to drink alcohol at all in a park and there is a heavy fine if you get caught)
The thing I hate seeing the most is Corvids, and Seagulls eating remains of food from a food laden MacDonald wrapper - dropped casually close to a bin.
People have no thoughts or mind set about what they are doing at all.
