Swans slaughtered to be eaten by Immigrants
Hi there I had a look and cannot see this bit of news elsewhere on this thread unless I have overlooked it. So my apologies if I have. I heard an article about the whole issue of destruction to our wildlife in the local News to me today. I have the BBC I-player set up and it will take time for it to be available (the BBC I-player is always a bit slow after a programmes has been on) However, I found an older article about the same issue of the Swans. I have heard about it already in the past and have similar issues close in my own area. Older link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...erborough.html I am gobsmacked about this and feel quite sickened about the whole situation. It is a question of what we do about it. This could be an interesting discussion. Of course, I have my views but anyway I will leave it up to others to start the discussion here Newer link today: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00s0z9l Swans discussed towards the end of the 15 mins programme local to my 'Look East' Regards Kathy and Dave
Unfortunately, this seems to be an increasing problem across the UK. My advice to everyone is to be vigilant and report anything suspicious to your local police wildlife crimes officer (WCO).
Regardless of people's views and opinions, this is a criminal offence under the WIldlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the police should act upon it.
Perhaps you could contact police or MPs to ask them what actions they are taking in trying to prevent it or prosecuting those that are caught.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour and I would have no hesitation in reporting anyone

hi LRB
Exactly, well said. The best thing to do is report any suspicious goings on. The more evidence is needed to show what is going on so people will take action to stop it.
The UK have spent a lot of money to make our green-space and wildlife a place for us to go and enjoy. All the hard work put in by many people including volunteers to make the place wildlife friendlly - now we have people who have no regard for our laws.
People like these are frightening to have around, as we do not know what they will do if they are approached or caught doing something that they should not be doing.
I have my final views but i will not air them on here what i think as it is not appropriate.
A number to remember along with all other numbers to do with wildlife crime.
Maybe we should set up a petition here to forwards on to the Parliment, and open up the whole issue with this problem.
I know that fish have been taken from Bedford Park in the past and the place ended up looking like a 'booze' dump with all the used up beer cans used to catch the fish.
Grrrrrr at this situation.

Poachers are poachers regardless of their nationality and should all be treated the same - no excuses. People need to respect the laws protecting the wildlife in this country and if they don't they need to be dealt with seriously, not just a slap across the wrist. If someone comes to live in/visit any other country they should abide by that countries rules, customs and laws otherwise they should be just sent straight back to where ever they came from (and that includes us Brits!).
I do suspect that certain tabloid papers are over-exaggerating the scale of the problem for their own ends, but I can't judge how big that over-exaggeration is but put it this way, in a single paper a 8 foot shark became a 20 foot monster over the space of just three days! Regardless, where incidents are occuring then they need dealing with asap without tip-toeing around.

Think the Swan issue as sickening as it is is the minor problem, the bigger problem being illegal fishing and probably taking away as opposed to returning fish to water and these immigrants just walking into peoples gardens and sleeping in their sheds with no help from police who tell residents it is a civil matter.
hi Kat
Well said. A person breaks the law they get sent back to their own country where they can flaunt our laws in their own country instead..
I feel that this country has its own issues without having to deal with problems from other countries. We are on overload with too many people issues now in the UK - it is frightening!
If outside people come across to the UK they should be monitored by the employees, where they stay, and how they survive - simple as that. Once their working permit is finished they are sent back. They need to contribute something to our system here to stay on.
If they want to stay/are staying in the UK, they need to get a job to show that they are interested in contributing to this country. If we do not control the influx of people we are going to lose a lot more wildlife and have more distruction of our Green spaces simple as that - a human tip comes to mind. We have problems with travellers as it is - why other similar problems on our doorstep. With people the saying 'not in my back garden' comes to mind and I can understand why too. It is not fair, and right on people who pay their taxes all their lives, and have to foot the bill for others mess.
Sadly, I cannot track down a decent source ie an upmarket newspaper. If anyone finds a good solid story please post as I would be interested in reading it.
Off my soapbox now
hi Sooty
I have heard of people living in peoples sheds too. I remember seeing an article on the news where a family did not realise there where people living in their garden shed. The people where removed and then had the nerve to come back and sleep in the same shed all over again.
I would be scared to find out their where strangers living in my garden. They could be anyone. What next!
A civil matter is not the answer. Removal of the people involved, and lots of questions by the Police come to mind. Get to the root of what is going on and resolve issues as much as possible to set the records straight.
Oh dear what a disgusting article. I feel helpless for our wildlife at the moment. Unfortunately we do not have any Politicians who have any b***s. They are too scared to be called racists. Fairness is what is needed. It is totally irrelevant where you come from or what Nationality you are - the law is there for all, but the silence is deafening if it happens to be anyone other than British.
I used to be so proud of this Country. Our Grandparents and generations before them fought selflessly to keep the Great in Great Britain, but I am sure they will all be spinning in their graves at what is now happening.
I am not a racist at all, I don't give a monkeys what your skin colour is, but we cannot go to other Countries and break their laws and quite rightly too but.........WHEN IN ROME..........
Wildlife have no voice of their own, we must speak for them. I will sign any petition if it is possible to get one going.
Thanks for bringing this to our notice Blackbird.
Chez
You have no control over what life & people throw at you - but you have full control over how you deal with it!
hi Chez
It is a disgusiting article.
I understand that exploitation of wildlife is an ongoing issue that has been going on for a couple of years or more, It is spreading slowy, and getting worse now. The local Northampton Council is prepared to sweep it under the carpet, fob off the local press in the recent news article 15/4/2010.. The Police are not too interested either - they have more important issues at hand - like getting the troublemakers operating our own streets.
Like you, Chez, I am not against non-brits living in this country - it is what they contribute to this country that is the issue at hand, I think some people have an idea that we are a soft option, and it should not be the case at all. You would never get a starving British person eating a Swan ever!,... we know the rules.
There are a lot of hard and fast rules abroad in other countires, and we have to adhere to them. That includes speaking that countries language, and that should apply here too.
The UK is fast becoming a national joke now!
Anytime with the thread, Chez.
We need to talk loudly about the issue at hand to protect wildlife, so people know what is going on now.
