Big Garden Bird Watch Results 2010 (back to normal)

Yeah! Sparrows have come out TOP nationally .... brilliant. The national top 10 are:

1. House sparrow
2. blackbird
3. starling
4. blue tit
5. chaffinch
6. woodpigeon
7. robin
8. great tit
9. collared dove
10. goldfinch

Yes it's great about the spadgers! Was surprised that the goldies only came in at #10 though! (#8 for Shropshire)

You might want to chat about your Big Garden Birdwatch results over in the BGBW group ....

We took part for the first time.  Spotted only a few birds in that hour, couple of starlings, some sparrows and a couple of chaffinches.

A couple of hours later the garden was full of goldfinches, chaffinches, greenfinches, sparrows, and starlings!  We also saw, later a couple of jackdaws.  I am never sure which of the tits we see as they are far too fast for me:)

Obviously , they knew I was counting them on the day and all decided to wait till later to appear.  We often get a dozen or more goldfinches on the feeders in our garden - we are about 20 miles south of Aberdeen on the North east coast of Scotland.
