Phillipine Eagle - Typhoon Haiyan

Hi all, What's the opinion on whether we need to worry about the critically endangered Phillipine Eagle during this super typhoon? With roughly 250-750 individuals in total (http://www.birdlife.org/datazone/speciesfactsheet.php?id=3528)is it possible that they will be significantly hit? I don't know if they know about it and hide or fly away before storm comes (if they have some sort of evolved bird intuition for the weather) so interested to hear expert thoughts! Dan
  • Hi Dan, great post, and indeed worrying times for all involved in the area. The scenes after the typhoon look devastating and it is hard to imagine how anything could withstand such a battering. My optimistic view is that wildlife is often more resilient than we give it credit for so hopefully they were able to sit out the storm but realistically, it is likely that wildlife did suffer to some extent, it will probably take some time to grasp the full extent of the impacts though.
