Please consider signing and circulating this petition: epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/46848 requesting a closed season for hares. They are the only 'game' that do not have this 'privilege' meaning that many leverets die due to their mothers being killed.
There is the Hare Preservation Act of 1892 which makes it illegal to sell, or offer to sell, hare between 1 March and 31 July, but hare has still been found to be sold between these dates in some shops and restaurants; more still most likely unnoticed.
It would make far more sense to protect them completely from being hunted at all whilst they're breeding!
Of course, I'm 100% biased here and would happily see a complete year round ban on these beautiful enigmatic mammals.... but this is a very good and important step towards that! ;-)
Thank you!

Signed - disgusting that they should be shot at any time of year. I was once out in open country and saw a hare running across a field - only moments later BANG!! - and it was on the ground. I've never forgotten it - in fact it is seared into my memory...

Done.
Sorry MarJus just caught up with this - can't seem to load the page just now but will definately be happy to sign when I can get on. Apologies :-) It's horrible to think they're being shot at all
Gosh that's awful CJ; thanks for signing!
