Really tragic news from the Norfolk Eagles. The mother was killed today by collision with an aircraft. It remains to be seen if dad can bring up the eaglets by himself.

Video of examination of eaglets.
Hi all
Although a sad episode, it has been fascinating to watch the eaglets being removed from the nest and then relocated to the Wildlife Centre...would not have fancied being the climber who has the task of removing the birds from the nest..he was literally hanging from a thread.
When you see the young birds being examined at the Wildlife Centre and see the size of them compared to a human, it brings home just how large the birds are...and these are nowhere near full-grown.
Also interesting to read information about how the eaglets will be cared for and how they will be prepared for life in the wild. The link below gives info from Ed Clark of the Wildlife Centre

Hi Tiger
Thank you for the links to the video clips. I've just watched them all.
We can only hope that the eaglets survive and eventually flourish in the wild, and that Dad Eagle returns to Norfolk next year and finds a new female partner to raise a new brood with
Best wishes Chris

Tiger thanks for the above, amazing how large they are, makes you realise just how big the nest is. The good thing is that they all look extrremely healthy having had such wonderful parents. My wish now is for the male to find a new mate. What a sad day for him yesterday.

SheilaFE thanks for putting the pictures on and I agree they are not as attractive as ospreys but they do have a certain majesty about them. Have to confess I felt so sad all day yesterday and my thoughts were with the male who has lost everything. They all seem very healthy and hopefully they will all be released to the wild as soon as they are ready.
Today's update for the eaglets. See update for 28th April 2011
It seems that we will have a webcam in due course.
Here is dad returning to the nest last night to look for his chicks. See dad looks for chicks.
Tiger thnks for that link. Started to watch but ended up in tears again. Will look again later but so sad to see him looking for his family.
