Blue tit in nesting box end of August

Hi, I have a camera in a nesting box which was used at the start of the season. Nest built by blue tits and a successful family hatched and left the nest - wonderful to have the camera and to watch

the last week I’ve seen a blue tit enter the nest at about 18:30 hours and sleep all night, leaving at about 7am. It’s the end of August now and I didn’t think they had a second family in a year - is it normal for blue tits to use old nests for sleepovers?

thank you

  • It is indeed quite normal for Blue Tits to roost overnight in bird boxes, if you're lucky then it may stay over Winter!  It's also quite usual for one to roost in a bare box  after old nesting materials are cleaned out, won't bother to take in any new materials!
