I'm starting to read more reports of avian flu outbreaks, and was thinking it might be a wise idea for us to share any reports we come across to help those new and still learning about our wonderful wildlife.
A link from the .GOV.UK pages to peruse: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/avian-influenza-bird-flu
Avian flu case confirmed in swan on Solway Coast

Plus one I posted a while back
More cases of bird flu confirmed in Wales, this time at nature reserve

If it's felt a bad idea, I'll can it here and now.

Wendy S said:The Springwatch programme on Thursday showed some horrific pictures and details of the Avian Flu victims. We need to be aware of the problem if ee find any dead birds on our patches
I got a feeling that this current outbreak was being slowly hushed up in view of the impact it would have on free range poultry and the tourist industry, but couldn't prove it. Then things seem to escalate once again, and notably, after the Easter and spring breaks.
Or am I just being cynical......

Gannets have been washing up around the Island ;( fishing and yachting crews are reporting birds out at sea. One of the small farms has culled all their chickens after 1/2 the flock died over night and I believe the various populations of feral chickens are going to be culled - people have a habit of dumping cockerels in various of the small woodlands around the Island www.alderneywildlife.org/.../HPAI_update_Media Release_for_UK_22082022 (1)_0.pdf

In my very limited experience, I fear as we get in to the migration months, it is only going to spread yet further. And that's on top of everything else to aid its spread.
