Here's a walk that should be possible with a bit of bus travel or maybe a taxi. It's weather and wind direction dependant for quality of migrants etc but great if you hit it right :)
Take the Lymington ferry to Yarmouth IOW and then taxi/bus to the Needles. Check the bushes around the carparks and tea rooms near the alum bay Ski lift . The pitch and putt course near the chine ( Steep valley) is a good migrant trap in early morning - ie before 8am. Headon Warren is the ridge to the north and migrants follow it .:)
Walk towards the needles on the tarmac road and climb the steps onto the top of West High down. Explore the area on the top and check the fences etc for migrants.
Walking back east along the top of West High Down check any likely looking gorse scrub especially on the north side of the down as you reach the fence at the extreme east end of the down.
The fence that runs along the North side, bordering fields can produce migrants.
A path beyond a stile leads to a chalk pit and can be worth a look. Alternatively continue east on the top of the down to Freshwater bay. From here a wide footpath leads north along the old railway back to Yarmouth and the ferry.:)
Birds possible are migrants inc. commoner warblers, redstart, whinchat, etc. Dartford warbler, peregrine. Waders and ducks along the river and terns from the ferry. ( In October Ring Ouzels move through along West High Down)
Check the excellent IOW bird sighting websites :)

Hi,
a good place for a relaxed walk and some birds at most times of the year is Newtown harbour on the IOW north coast. Autumn and winter are probably best for sheer numbers of waders and ducks.
Thanks Seymour.
I can see I am going to be walked off my feet. I just hope the weather is fine!!
Cheers, Linda.
