Portsmouth and Isle of Wight winter walk

Here's an unusual winter walk,  :)

Take the foot ferry from Portsmouth ( if you have time Southsea castle near the hovercraft station is a reliable Purple sandpiper site)  to  Ryde and walk EAST along the esplanade and shore checking the Solent.

Work your way around to Bembridge Harbour for Mediterranean gulls. Check the harbour and small golf course at St Helens as you cross the harbour on the old stone walls then  check Brading Marsh from the road as you skirt the harbour  south side and work along the coast to Foreland if you have time.

There are cafes in the area but they may not always be open in  winter. Packed lunch a good idea guys:)

Birds can include seaduck, divers, grebes,  black redstart, peregrine, purple sandpiper, common waders etc.

As usual it's worth checking with the local birdline or Bird group report / Bird recorder   for info on what's about.
