I've just had a Lesser Redpoll visit the feeding station in my garden. As you can see it went for nyger seeds. Here's a few photos I took. Photographed through the window (none too clean) and I couldn't stop my hand shaking with excitement (rather sad for a grown man). Never seen them in the garden before.
Anyone else had sightings of them in their gardens or any other unusual visitors?

Oh TJ it certainly does get better. Well done, but your photos haven't downloaded. You must try harder!
Cheers, Linda.

That's strange because when I open the link they are there. Try closing it and then reopening.

I tried that and still got the dreaded little squares, but they are there now.
How lovely, and superb photos TJ.
No wonder you were shaking with excitement. I would have fainted!
Oh wow congratulations! I've never had the pleasure of seeing one here.
I know what you mean about the excitement though, if anything out of the ordinary appears at my feeders excitement gets the better of me, if it wasn't for the tripod I'd have lousy photos, lol! :o)
Exellent pictures ! I Never seen/noticed these before !! They are very sparrow like birds, i must take a little more notice in future, do they fly with other birds ? are they hedgerow birds ? any info would be great !! thankyou ;)

I'm no great expert on Redpolls, Neil. I think they are birds of open fields and hedgerows like linnets and corn buntings which is why they have declined so much due to modern agricultural practices.
Take a look at the this link od the RSPB website.

Hi TeeJay, superb photos. I've not seen them here (Bucks) but I know of folk in Hereford and also Goucestershire that they are visiting.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Congratulations TeeJay. Lovely pictures.
Nice photos! We had one last year. When I finish un-mangling my photos from accidentally deleting them last week, I'll see if I can find a picture.
