Why does this always happen when I don't have my camera with me? Took the dog out for a walk and decided to go around the "big field" for a change. First, I see a buzzard perching beautifully on a branch, another gave a brilliant flew low above my head, there were goldcrests in the trees, rabbits that seemed to decide that winding up the dog is a game and finally a buzzard tearing away at a dead rabbit! Got pretty close before the buzzard flew off too but of course no camera! Typical! There were a good number of prints in the snow too, mostly rabbit but some deer and another what I guess must be from a pheasent as the prints are massive and you can see the tail marks in the snow. At least me and the dog had a good walk though!

Very high! I think they all vanish as soon as they see someone with a camera lol

It does sound like a brilliant walk. We walk our dogs every day in fields, by the river, all sorts of places, but I am not as lucky as that. Shame about the camera though!

Haha there are so many buzzards around at the moment it is unbelievable, they are everywhere you look! Not sure what they're all going to do when spring arrives, I can see quite a bit of fighting going on!

Well there aren't any in Clitheroe!!!!!! Although I do admit that when we are walking the dogs I don't tend to wear my specs. I can see (pun) that I will have to start wearing them in future. It is now my number one priority to find a buzzard.
My only experience with a buzzard was at a falconry place. The falconer had a buzzard sitting on his glove. He had been flying it. The bird was very comfortable and unconcerned, sort of "butter wouldn't melt" expression. The man was busy talking to us about his birds, when unseen by any of us, my grandson (12 at the time) decided to stroke him. I don't think he will do that again in a hurry!! The buzzard bit his finger. It drew blood, but wasn't serious at all, although the falconer was panic stricken because he had to find the accident book and write it all down.
I usually hear them before I see them, they're always calling to each other so it makes them pretty easy to find at this time of the year when there are no leaves on the trees to hide them. Plus they can even been seen flying over the town lol

Sometimes we do not feel like carrying our cameras around.
When we decide to for a walk ... leave the camera behind ... a great opportunity passes by {sad}
Birds and Wildlife sits nicely for us and the special moment passes by us {sigh}
Still I would see it as a great walk, and that you really enjoyed yourself a whole lot.

I remember going to a BoP centre and I touched a Buzzard. What a great feeling to be able to touch one. I was thrilled to bits.

Sounds like a fab walk Kat! Just wish buzzards weren't spooked so easily! We have plenty here but getting close-ish is another story!!
