Return to MONCREIFFE HILL 18/11/09

04/11/09 Moncreiffe Hill is one of my local hills, between Bridge of Earn and Perth, the view is of Perth and

the north.

While up there I spent half an hour or so chasing a Gold Crest who just wouldn't stay still. During this time

I snapped this Tree Creeper, It was part of a small flock of mixed birds. mostly Tits.

If the sun is bright later I will return and try again, as after taking 20 or so shots, these are the best!

those ******* little branches and twigs always in the way. Made focusing impossible.

Good enough for ID.

A flock of about eight Bullfinch also in the same area. feeding on berries. Another reason to return.

Although I had a frustrating time trying to get the right shot! It was still brilliant seeing them and smelling the Autumn wood.

John :-)

For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.

  • Thanks all, I seem to have rediscovered a local spot I've been over looking, can't wait to go back!

Thanks Brenda, you may be right, I am getting quite hooked on this camera lark.

  • The rain broke today for a couple of hours so I made a dash for the hill. I had a nice Goldie moment plus one or two others. I also have ID needed and will post that next.

    Bullfinch M & F

The Buzzard had quite a set of lungs!

Hope you enjoy half as much as I did.

  • Very much enjoyed thanks!! They're all great pics! Love the bullfinch 'take off', the buzzard (I can almost hear it!) and the goldies of course!! We had sun first thing but it soon vanished!! Been grey since...

  • Hi John

Another lovely set of photos, you lucky thing!  Also love the squirrels!

  • All great photos John but I especially love the long-tailed tit - has to be one of my favourite small birds.

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

  • I enjoyed your pics - you obviously had a good time.

  • Hi all thanks for comments, I've been back and I got my clear answer to the Redpoll issue (not the lesser/common) just the Redpoll part! Plus my first clear shot of a Redwing, this year, and suddenly there everywhere!

Not the greatest shot but their just getting to know me, I'm willing to wait and lets face it, its not up to me!

Love these little birds, flocks up to about 15 now.

I'm still having the same problem with this little fellow, he will not sit still! Mind you he has a wicked streak,

when the sky opened up and dropped everything on me and I was forced to put my camera away, he came right down to within six feet and bobbed about. Then, yes you guessed it, the sun came back and he was away like a shot!!!!! ***** !!!

If only he had this one's temp!!!  Next time when my twitch has calmed down!

Hope you are all having a good day.

    John :-)

  • Lovely pics John.  Redwings and berries make a good colour combination.  Lucky you to be able to get out and about.  I have been stuck in the office all day and now it is raining again.  Oh joy!!!

  • Fantastic photos John - the close-up of the blue tit is stunning. Glad I am not the only one who's birds give them the run around. Mine wait until I am focused then sixth sense tells them to really hack me off by flying away just as I am pressing the button!

  • More great pics John! I was fieldfare/ redwing 'hunting' yesterday too!
